Why Goals Might Sabotage Your Success

Just listened to Keith Cummingham’s tele-seminar and it was absolutely smashing!
He mentioned that goals are good but people need to be aware how they might end up sabotaging your success. Why?
- Because everyone plans a specific set of directions to achieve your goals and people often get obsessed with the plans, rather than the outcome. Many people lose the flexibility of changing their plans and feel frustrated when they do not achieve it
- As goals creates a sense of illusion that your current place is bad. As you desire to be where your goals are, hence presently the place you are at is a terrible place. However, it is not true as you are growing to achieve your goals and it is not immediate. Rather you should focus on the person you want to be in order to achieve the outcome
In fact, he says most successful people did not take the path they thought they would take. Rather changes occurred and they responded swiftly by changing their plans. And they choose to be flexible and create circumstances that propelled their success.
Some examples:
- Anthony Robbins only had 2 attendees at his first seminar. Did he give up?
- Robert Kiyosaki (Keith is his “rich dad” mentioned in his book, by the way) only sold 1,000 copies of his book for a long time but chose to take action
- Bill Gates considered selling Microsoft away for 20 million at one stage, not knowing how massive the company was going to grow
Essentially, decide and develop the person you want to be in order to achieve your goals. Your skills and knowledge currently is not sufficient to be the person you want to be, otherwise you would be there already. Make a commitment to develop your skills and mindset to achieve your goals. In short, understand the implications of goals and rather focus on becoming the person you desire to fulfill your goals.
Also be aware of the self sabotaging tendencies, in general there are four profiles:
- Child – always wanting to be helped and pampered
- Victim – always thinking that everyone is out to harm you and helpless
- Drama Queen – always having the need to create trouble to enjoy the ups and downs
- Prostitute – having to work to portray a specific image or perception
Once you are aware of your own self sabotaging tendencies, be aware and look out when they are working to wreck havoc in your life.
Personally, I have been swamped with work, in a positive way. 1 corporate account and 2 more in discussion. And plus 2 new niche websites to be created. Add another discussion on using the internet to raise funds for an animal charity. It has been hectic but amazing. I love helping companies acquire more business through branding and internet marketing. Thank you to the universe for giving me the opportunity to help them!
I have been so busy that I do work and listen to my self help audios at the same time to maximize time.
