It drives me crazy (I am sorry to my clients who have asked me this before) when people ask me about SEO services and assume that it is the solution to their online challenges. Therefore, I am writing an article on the reasons NOT to hire a SEO company and other factors you should consider before hiring them.

Reason 1) If your existing website is not converting already

Search Engine Optimization is simply a traffic generation technique to get relevant traffic into your website. If your existing website is not already converting, there is no point to pay for additional traffic which will not convert on your website anyway. It is a waste of money.

Rather focus on increasing website conversion before hiring any SEO experts.

Reason 2) You are not asking your target audience to take action online

If your website is simply providing information with minimal call for action, there is a low chance that they will convert on your website anyway. People need clear instructions on how to react on your website. If you are not asking them to take the next step to sign up for something, you need to re-think about getting how to get your website traffic to convert online before hiring a SEO consultant.

Reason 3) You have no metrics of measurement for success.

If you are considering SEO because everyone is talking about it, it is time to think again. SEO is an expensive activity, ranging from at least $4k and above. And if you plan to embark on it, consider what would be the factors for evaluation for your success. Is it the number of sign ups, the number of people requesting for a white paper or calling your company. Be clear about it before even calling a SEO company.

So if you need to improve your website and you want to start generating leads from the website? How do you do it?

Firstly, seek online marketing companies that specializes in website conversion and also in traffic generation. Listen to their proposals. Hire the one that recommends the most useful insights on website conversions and then consider traffic generation techniques.  If your website does not convert, no amount of SEO activities will help you increase sales.

Focus first on website conversion, the sales process and finally the traffic generation techniques. They all work hand in hand and cannot go without the other. Hope you have learned something from this.
